Bills Draft Eric Wood at #28 in 2009 NFL Draft

By Buffalo Bills Fan

He played Center at Louisville but it looks like he may be playing guard here his first year.  Eric Wood is 6’4” and weighs in at 310lbs.  The scouting sites say he was the undisputed leader on the Louisville Cardinals offensive line.  He is said to be a nasty smash mouth kind of Center that likes to physically abuse his opponents.  It is also said that he is extremely thorough about preparing for his next game.  When asked about that attribute, Wood said he likes to prepare thoroughly because it is something he can control about his playing ability.

My favorite highlight from the draft was when Chris Brown asked Wood about being a blue collar player coming to a blue collar town like Buffalo.  Wood is from Cincinnati.  Wood said he was proud of his blue collar work ethic and his blue collar image.  He also said “I may not be the most talented guy but I am going to punish a lot of people on the field.  It’s what I do.”  You have got to love a guy who knows his role and is confident that he will get it done.

His video highlights include a bunch of plays where he is totally devastating his opponents.  The phrase “pancake block” comes to mind.   He looks like a very solid player to me.

He will upgrade the line.  The question is whether he will be an upgrade in his first year or not.
