Bills Draft Aaron Maybin at #11 in 2009 NFL Draft

By Buffalo Bills Fan

I tell you what.  After watching the Chris brown interview at Buffalo Bills.com, I can say that I really like this guy.  This guy has real charisma.  His highlight reel was pretty impressive also.  This is a young and articulate man who has all the physical attributes of a great NFL player.  He is 6’3” and weighs in at 249lbs.

Some in the media have called him undersized to play defensive end.  I remember Bruce Smith’s best years were when he was lean and fast.  That’s what we need.  We need enough speed to effectively put pressure on quarterbacks like Tom Brady.  Maybin could really provide that.  I am not suggesting he will be anything like Bruce was.  We know that won’t happen.  At this point I would happily take ½ of Bruce.  Even that might be optimistic. Maybin was rotated in a lot at different positions when playing at Penn State.  I’m okay with that here also.

Remember when Sam Cowart played linebacker here.  He was flying all over the place making plays at linebacker.  He led the league in tackles one year before he got injured late in the season.  We need someone with that kind of speed and toughness to shake things up in the opponent’s backfield.  Let’s hope that Aaron Maybin is the real deal.

By the way he talked about the Penn State fans, I can see this guy becoming a fan favorite very early on.  He just needs to get his feet wet and make a couple big plays.  The fans are going to love this guy.  By the way he acts, it looks like he will respect the fans just as much.  That is kind of nice to see around here.  That’s what we want.  Play your heart out and we’ll love you for it.

There are two really important points about Maybin that I like.  First is his explosiveness.  He is supposed to have a great first step.  Everyone knows how important that is in creating big plays.  The other thing I really like is his experience playing at different spots on the field.  Hopefully, the Bills will use this experience to move him around right from the start.  Teams won’t know what to expect and will find it difficult to make adjustments.  That might give the Bills the edge they need to win a close game.

I can’t wait to see him play.
